I applaud Paul Findley 's courage to speak out. This book is not fiction nor a conspiracy theory but based on Paul Findley's own experience as a congressman. This book is well written and insightful on the power and influence that the Isreali Lobbyist have on our government. More importantly, the book describes the powerful influence that lobbyist have on our government; and how our government(congress) establishes policy that bebenifts interest groups, not the American People.
And see how we are being kept in the dark and how our hard earned tax dollars are sent to Israel. I think Anti Semite/Anti Israel is over used and people need to realize that Paul Findley (or many other authors) are not Anti semite or anti israel. This book covers the people who actually stood up against Israel lobby and criticize Israel's policy against Palestine, had to face so much problems/heat from AIPAC/pro israel lobbies. Few new things that i learned from this book is that US and Israel allow each other's military to get educated/trained in each other's countries. Amazing read, great investment. Also learn in this book, how our Tax dollars are spent on Israel as AID.
Best thing about this book is that Findley was in the congress so he (and his colleagues) experienced lobby pressure first hand. On one occassion when US Defense Minister couldn't find the ammunition Israel requested, Israel in turn told the defense minister the exact location of those ammunition which were in Hawaii and the total number in stock. My thought about anti semitism is that if someone criticizes someone doesn't mean they are anti semite or anti US. Real men and women accept their mistakes and try to correct themselves. Public is not stupid. Other issue is that Israel spies in congress have been caught spying on US's high profile documents and handing them over to Israel Embassy.Another thing is how Jews/Pro Israelis, who also criticize Israel, they are labeled traitors and loose votes and face the heat. Secondly he just presented the situations and concluded how Israel Lobby (more specifically AIPAC) has been putting pressure on US Foreign Policy and molding it in their favor which works for Israel citizens put makes US citizens more volatile to terrorism (point presented very nicely by Micheal Scheuer as well). As evident in recent issue over Human Right violation by both Israel and Hamas in Gaza where US keeps vetoeing the report from Goldstone.
Also below are some of the books every American and Canadian Citizen should read. They are pro US and cannot stand someone abusing their country. We all are realizing now that something is not and we share openly our thoughts. Rather not keep denying the responsibility of their actions. Why this much of Tax Payers money was used in AID while in our own country we had so many people on the streets due to foreclosures, unemployment etc.
Definitely worth a read. Go for it.Recommended Books/MaterialImperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on TerrorPalestine: Peace Not ApartheidYoutube videos every North American Citizen should watch:Confessions of an Economic Hit ManGreta Van Susteren James Traficant If you want to find out more, I highly recommend this book. And now out of 30 countries have voted in favor of the report while US and 5 other European countries have vetoed. It is about time that US treat Israel as another country rather than special where US keeps hiding Israel's 'mistakes'.
Shouldn't the leaders be helping the people of our own country first before helping others. US trainees are not allowed to enter certain areas in Israel yet Israeli trainees have all the freedom to enter even the high profile areas. Now this was something quite interesting because just last year when the whole world was crying recession, Israel got $3 billion in AID from US (some other financial support also from lobbies/military assistance).
Do not let a small group of parasites blead our Country alive for their own selfish benefit. Wake up Americans; now there is a lot of books on the same subject that enlighten, illuminate, educate and take the blindfold out of the eyes of the people of this our marvellous Country The United States of America. I recommend the reading of this book. I think it is just about time that people start speaking about the subject that has been banned for so many years. The American people need to take back the control of this great Country.
Perhaps the 3rd edition did something about it. In all fairness, I did not give it 5 stars for one reason: the book left me quite depressed about the state of affairs of this nation, and I didn't like the impression it inadvertently paints of an all-powerful lobby. The issues discussed are very relevant, examining the influence of a foreign country in every aspect of American life: in Congress and the White House, in the press, in the universities and churches, and throughout America. In any case, if you haven't read any of the earlier editions, it is worth to just buy it and take a look. From the start, the author makes a sharp distinction between being pro-Israel (as he defines himself) and being "pro-Israel-right-or-wrong", as "They Dare to Speak Out" appears to categorize the Zionist lobby. Written by a former congressman, this book is a massive compendium detailing the enormous influence of the Israeli Lobby in the USA.
The book is very well-written, and very engaging as the picture unfolds like a detective story, chapter by chapter. For one thing, as "They Dare to Speak Out" points out repeatedly, a large part of the Lobby's influence is psychological, yet the whole book tends to reinforce that "almighty lobby" image, which means the book is self-defeating, in a way. Released for a third time with an update all the way to the turn of the millennium, this is definitely the authoritative study of the working of American politics, and the ease with each the US political system can be manipulated by another country. It is definitely an influential book and highly recommended reading. You might feel overwhelmed, but you will learn a lot of important things, too. I have only read the second edition, and actually am seriously considering getting the third just to see what Findley has added to the book - it's been almost a decade and a half since the second edition, so this update is long overdue.
It reads like a who's who in politics and society, with quotations and interviews with everyone of relevance, even including many prominent American Jews who dare to speak out against the Israeli lobby and reject having to toe the lobby line.
I found this book to be a significant piece of the U.S./world puzzle. This book comes from a qualified credible source and is very educational. Highly recommended. And this is coming from a Jew critical of Israel policies and supporter of justice and human rights of all peoples. It not only speaks of AIPAC, but also of various pressures, and intimidation tactics in politics, media, academia, used by pro-Israel groups and right wing fundamentals in support of such. Findley also writes about the left democratic Christians who oppose the pro-Israel lobby, and of those founding Zionists (Nahum Goldmann) and Anti-Zionists that spoke out against Israel's treatment of Palestinians and Arabs rights.
